Already known as a singer and calypsonian – 2018 National Women’s Action Committee (NWAC) National calypso queen and NCC Calypso Monarch finalist – she embodies Rose’s Tobago accent and stutter, and her body language effectively.” Read full article here.

Essiba Small, who reviewed the show for the Trinidad Express said, “If you closed your eyes for a minute, during any one of Stacey Sobers singing performances at Thursday’s press staging of Queen of the Road: The Calypso Rose Musical, you would have thought Calypso Rose was on stage. The Yes Production’s musical, directed and written by Rhoma Spencer, a noted thespian herself, did well in choosing Sobers, the 2018 calypso queen, for the role. For it was the calypsonian’s vocal prowess, onstage comfort and showmanship, that made her portrayal of Linda McCartha Monica Sandy-Lewis (Rose), believable. Read full article here

National Calypso Monarch

As mentioned earlier Stacey landed on the National Calypso Monarch stage for the first time in 2018. For any calypsonian, a calling to Big Yard, or the Savannah stage is a great achievement, with associations to Calypso greats: the Mighty Sparrow, the Lord Kitchener and Singing Sandra. Stacey has graced the staged four times. In addition to her appearance in 2018, she again made it to Skinner Park in 2019 with “Make T & T Great Again”, in 2020 with “No Woman No Fraid” and in 2024 with “Respect the Tribe”. 2024 marked her fourth appearance in the National Calypso Monarch Final, where she earned the 6th place.

Stacey’s career in the calypso arena and on the Trinbagonian cultural landscape, demonstrates what success looks like when talent meets genuine love for the culture coupled with a determination to add to the legacy that is Trinidad and Tobago Carnival. Stacey’s hope is that other young women who are hoping to take their place in Trinidad and Tobago’s art and culture circuit can take inspiration from her non-traditional approach and the steady strategic planning that remains the foundation for her work.
