Sobers rides into Soca Monarch semifinals
Stacey Sobers describes herself as a dynamic entertainer and a fun-loving person.
These were the characteristics she took with her when she entered the preliminary round of the 2003 National Lotteries Classic International Soca Monarch competition with her song “Ride Meh Riddim”.
She’s excited about the song and its potential at this level of competition, going up against the likes of joint defending champions Iwer George and Bunji Garlin.
Sobers advanced to the semi-finals the first time she entered the competition in 2002.
This year the preliminary round has been transformed into a show allowing contestants the opportunity to display their talents before both the judges and the public. Sobers is no stranger to this type of action.
The 25-year-old beauty proved to be a performer of note when she participated in the 1994 edition of Nescafe Party Time, placing second in the preliminaries and semi-finals. Sobers placed fourth in the finals.
Since then, Sobers has worked with Klassic Ruso Calypso Tent 2002 doing “Leh Meh Know When Ah Coming” This selection which reached No.3 on the WLIB charts in New York, also made it onto a 2002 compilation produced by international music house VP Records, Klassic Ruso has again …….. her as a cast member for 2003.
